How Indoor Air Pollution Released From Gas Stoves Are Harming Your Health
Gas stoves emit nitrogen dioxide (NO₂), carbon monoxide, and other chemicals, all of which can affect lung health and overall well-being.

Research has linked gas stove emissions to an increased risk of asthma and respiratory issues. Children living in homes with gas stoves are 42% more likely to develop asthma symptoms, according to a meta-analysis published in Environmental Research Letters. Prolonged exposure to NO₂ can irritate the lungs, reduce lung function, and contribute to chronic respiratory conditions.

On top of that, studies show that the levels of nitrogen dioxide (NO₂) from cooking on a gas stove can be higher than the pollution in crowded cities. In fact, indoor pollution from gas stoves is often more harmful than outdoor pollution because of the small space and poor ventilation. In the UK, these emissions are linked to approximately 3,928 premature deaths annually.
The pollutants from gas stoves can accumulate quickly in enclosed spaces, especially without proper ventilation. Indoor NO₂ levels in homes with gas stoves often exceed safety limits set by the World Health Organization. This is particularly concerning during winter when windows are closed, and ventilation is reduced.
What You Can Do

Proper ventilation is key to reducing the health risks of gas stoves. Turning on an oven fan or opening a window while cooking can lower pollutant levels by up to 50%. If your kitchen doesn’t have an exhaust fan, consider using an air purifier with a HEPA filter designed to remove fine particles.

For long-term health benefits, some experts recommend switching to electric or induction cooktops, which don’t release harmful pollutants into the air. These options are safer and more energy-efficient alternatives to gas.
It’s mind-blowing how many of us are completely unaware of this shocking fact.
Sharing knowledge like this is crucial. When we know better, we do better – we can’t change what we don’t know. Please share this information with others so we can raise awareness, protect our health, and create safer, healthier homes for everyone.

Feel better. Think clearer.
